You couldn't pay me a million bucks to go on this trail in China. I don't care how wonderful the drinks are at the teahouse at the end of it!

We Want to Go: Venice Film Festival

posted as: travel talk
September 07, 2010
Just happen to be heading to Venice this week? Don't forget to check out the Venice Film Festival, happening now through Saturday. You probably won't be able to get tickets to any showings at this late a date, but it can't hurt to try if you're going to be in town. And film fiends will be excited to check out what's going to be hot in the coming year.

Plus, who doesn't love hob-nobbing with the stars in one of the most beautiful cities on earth? Throw on your Valentino sunglasses and imagine yourself a classic European …

High Speed Train Travel In The U.S.?

posted as: travel talk

Train travel is the preferred mode of transportation for many a Jauntsetter of the Week. Sadly the high speed kind isn't readily available in the States - for now. According to The New York Times the development of a high speed rail system (meaning not just faster trains but dedicated train tracks for those faster locomotives) is speeding up.

When it comes to in-flight food options, however, passengers have way fewer choices than consumers on …

Just a quick alert that JetBlue has released their latest round of "Cheep Fares" on Twitter (they publish super-low fares on Tuesday mornings for the following Saturday every week) and there's a roundtrip ticket to West Palm Beach, FL for $159 (including all taxes and fees!).

Leave JFK Saturday afternoon, return Monday or Tuesday night, giving you up to three nights and almost three full days on the beach. By the way, if we went to Palm Beach, we'd stay at The Brazilian Court Hotel (pictured) for $175/night. With understated decor, an onsite spa and a highly reviewed Daniel Boulud restaurant, this …

Western Europe may be beautiful in the late summer and early fall, but your carefree getaway plans could be hampered thanks to some good old-fashioned transportation strikes. As anyone who has spent time in France knows, transportation strikes are not uncommon there, but the subway, rail, and bus strikes happening now are considered to be the largest in several years. Don't cancel your trip over it - you're just getting an authentic French experience, after all - but be aware that the train between the airports (Roissy and Orly) and Paris may not be running much of this …
