The other weekend we went upstate, hiked snow covered trails (here), made crackling fires, enjoyed Raclette, and played crying-with-laughter rounds of Celebrity with some of our closest friends. Now we want you to do the same, and we've found the perfect abode for you to do it in.
The home? It's Zubehaus, which we read about this summer in the Great Homes section of The New York Times this summer and is now available for rent. This gem of a house is owned--and decorated--by Fab.com's founder Bradford Shellhammer and located in Sparrowbush, New York. Just a 90 minute drive from Manhattan, the spacious 1960s abode feels worlds away from most city dwellings, what with its 4 bedrooms that sleep 8, high ceilings, towering fireplace, and panoramic views of the surrounding wooded property. (Bonus points for the bar in the lounge-y living room and outdoor built-in gas grill, which is easy to access from the kitchen, even in winter.)
What to do besides stretch out, eat in and imbibe? The heated pool outside beckons in warmer weather, and the charming town of Milford, PA, which is a destination in its own right, is just a half an hour's drive away.
Sounds like the perfectly designed weekend getaway to us.
Zubehaus rents for $1,000 on non-holiday winter weekends, which breaks down to $125/bedroom per night. Readers who mention Jauntsetter when making a reservation for President's Day weekend will get an exclusive 15% off their 3 night stay.
