We're back from our week off and rather than feeling invigorated, our office (read: apartment) feels smaller, our computer feels slower, and some kind of ennui seems to have stricken us deeply.

In fact, all our symptoms seem to be saying that we're already jonesing for another trip out of town. Except this time, rather than taking a journey that involves passports and plane tickets, something mindless like an easy escape is calling our name. That, and it's actually supposed to be sunny and rather warmish this weekend (in the 40s!); we're always up for a little local exploring when the weather is fair and we needn't bundle up to venture out.

So where are we headed? The lovely little town of Southold, out east on Long Island, land of vineyards and local, slow foods a plenty. Want to come? We've made it very simple, and narrowed down our accommodation recommendation to just one choice...

Preferred mode of travel: I think nothing beats the experience of the Acela train. It’s so fast and quiet. Otherwise, I prefer to drive than fly if it is ever possible. There’s something unstoppable about an open road, a good radio signal, a hearty stipend for roadside cuisine, and a sun roof.

An exception you make when you travel: In real life I am not that big into frozen yogurt, but in airports I can’t get enough. A TCBY spotting will actually get my pulse up.

Best hotel you've ever stayed at: Outside of the states, the castle-like Parador de Granada at the Alhambra Palace in Spain. Stateside, I really love the Parker in Palm Springs, California. I went last January on one of my silliest trips - I ended up having a work meeting at Jack Warner’s old house (of Warner Bros.) with a veteran British entertainment reporter, who offered to make me boiled eggs and tea to eat next to a pool that used to play host to Elvis’ bikini parties. That’s kind of the essence of California to me. And the Parker continued the feeling, with citrus fruits everywhere, raging bonfires in the garden, and Eames chairs as far as the eye could see...

This week's travel deals focus exclusively on airfare specials due to the fact that we found some seriously low prices on flights around the globe. Better yet, all the fascinating destinations we're featuring are perfect for a get-out-of-a-rut winter adventure.

Our favorite fares? New York to London in March, April and May for $575 - including all taxes and fees for these awesome nonstop flights. See below for an overview of all our deals, or click through for details on how to book each one.

By the way, we have to give a shout-out to Airfare Watchdog here - they're the site that we use to find the majority of the unadvertised sales that we share with you. If you haven't checked them out, definitely pay them a visit.

Finally, please also note that all our listed flights are roundtrip, all-fees-and-taxes-included, and non-stop (unless otherwise noted). We detest stopovers!

The Top 10 Flight Deals of the Week

To book some the unadvertised deals we mention below, head over to Kayak or Orbitz, and choose your preferred dates of travel; when you do, make sure you choose flexible travel dates - you'll get a matrix with a range of dates and the lowest prices possible for each fare.

  • West Coast for $219:  Head to San Francisco, Los Angeles or Las Vegas for way, way less on an award-winning domestic carrier.
  • Austin for an Awesome Price: Flights are priced as low as $218 to one of our favorite Texan escapes for travel through March 24th.
  • Domestic Deals: A major carrier is having a sale with flights to destinations throughout the US marked down for travel through March 10th. Our favorite find was Miami for $184 in early March.
  • London for $575: Flights to London's Heathrow airport on one of our favorite airlines ever are as low as $575 for travel between March 19th and May 15th.
  • Bangkok for under $1,000: Good for travel in March, which is a lovely time to be in Thailand.
  • Spend Next Week - in Belgium: We found last minute flights to Belgium for next week and weekend for $663. Depart between the 19th and 22nd, return between the 25th and 27th, and have lots of chocolates in between.
  • Hong Kong in Style: One of the nicest airlines out there has tons of flights to Hong Kong in April for $888, a competitive rate for springtime travel on a fancy flight.
  • St. Maarten/St. Martin for a Steal: One of our favorite island getaways is Saba, reachable by ferry from St. Maarten - and flights to this island are only $374 this winter. Getting to paradise doesn't get much cheaper.
  • Jamaica Sale: Nonstop flights to Montego Bay and Kingston are as little as $296 between now and February 28th. Just make sure you book by tomorrow (Jan 14th) to score this deal.
  • Bermuda Bargain: Fly to Bermuda for just $312 this winter.
